Dear Mr. Johnson,
I grew up in rural Wisconsin. After being away for 16 years, I am back, living in Oshkosh. I am happy for this because Wisconsin has been taken over by bigots like Scott Walker. I hope to be part of giving back rights to the people, and not the McDonalds. I am a researcher and have a background in public service. I have dedicated my life to helping those who do not have a voice.
I lost a close friend of mine, Tiffany, due to gun violence almost ten years ago. Tiffany was 20 years old. She was murdered by her ex boyfriend who then shot and killed himself. She came over to his apartment to get the last of her belongings. When he opened the door, he attacked her, tied her up on a chair, shot her in the hands, stomach, then the head. At her funeral her family wanted an open casket. They could only show part of her body, the one side of the head that was not blown to pieces. Nothing below the neck.
He stole his gun from his mom, who was a cop. He was troubled, but that didn’t stop him from getting a gun. I’d like to know how you can be pro life but how you can take money from the NRA? I understand the meaning of pro life, but the NRA clearly facilitates the killing of innocent people. Including children. Do you see the hypocracy in your actions? Have you ever had someone close to you murdered because of a gun? What do you plan to do about this? Tiffany, my friend who was killed, will never have a chance to do all the good she could have done in this world becuase people like you are allowing her to die.
According to gunviolence.org there have been 1,991 deaths due to guns in 2018. Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that on an average day, 96 Americans are killed with guns (https://everytownresearch.org/gun-violence-by-the-numbers/#DailyDeaths).
That is 96 stories, like Tiffany, a day. I hope people keep on telling their stories. Because people like you need to be reminded.
Also, I see you pride yourself on being from a farming community. If you care so much about farming, perhaps you could explain what you are doing about this: http://www.crawfordstewardship.org/a-dozen-cafo-talking-points/
I didn’t see you or anyone from your office at recent event held by this group, where small farmers from all over Wisconsin expressed concern about CAFOs.
Don’t say you represent Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin I know, is one that prides itself in organic food and protecting our beautiful natural environment.
My goal as a citizen is to make sure you, or nobody else who represents the NRA, taking away women’s rights, taking away the right for children to safely attend school, or the rights of small farmers ever gets into office again. Enjoy your term, it will be your last.
